Further update to "my humble apologies" below ...

Well - the problem was finally tracked down to a faulty motherboard (boring details excluded) after I could neither repair nor install Windows XP - all has been OK since December 2005

Sale/Wanted page ... now incorporates an expiry date. This has been implemented after too many complaints of "dead" ads and/or Contact details that fail etc etc. It's meant a big clearout so if you had an ad that has now vanished and still want to buy/sell a part, just let me know via the Sale/Wanted page.

*Updated ... GGON is still going after being revived ... this well-respected New Zealand website & similarly-named Yahoo email list always contained brilliant and leading-edge content for the GTI-R.

Anyway - I know that I now need to take a good look at my "To Do" list!!!

Update to "my humble apologies" below ...

Seems that ... It wasn't me. (acknowlegement to Shaggy!)

Although I reduced the fails they were still there, giving me horrendous problems with loss of work. A repair-install of Windows XP Pro did the trick. One freeze in 9 days, I can live with that.

Onwards & upwards!

My humble apologies . . .

for the past 9 months I have been experiencing random crashes on the PC that drives this website (19 random reboots in the last 5 day gives you some clue). This on a machine that, for the three months after I built it, was bulletproof.

I believe that I have tonight found the problem - A deep software issue to do with my own attempts to maximise the efficiency of this PC back in March. The details are very long and extremely boring (but I can let you know if you ask!!!). As I do this kind of stuff for a living, I needed to get to the root of the problem as a matter of professional pride i.e., by NOT installing any new hardware and by NOT re-installing everything including the kitchen sink.

Updates to this website have suffered badly.

I'm sorry.

Currently I'm so far behind that it brings a new meaning to the word "infinite". I will correct this situation with urgency.

NOTE: The "For Sale/Wanted" ads have always been processed reasonably quickly (but periodically even that process has suffered).

Oh! Also lost the Egroups tag & replaced it with a Yahoo one - why does no-one say you're being a fool???

(PS - a busted foot means I have the time to dig into a huge backlog of updates.)

Been catching up with a STACK of updates/corrections. Some go back to the year 2000 and I still have mountains of stuff to bring up to date ... :-)

Here's a summary of this latest update - rally shots from Sri Lanka & Spain, a new page devoted to DP's work on Bruce's car (mainly engine pics at the mo'), new fake (definitely worth a look!), pics of the SSS FMIC kit, B&W original press release pics from Nissan circa 1991 and a link to a couple of dozen shots of Carolyn's engine strip. Basic fixes to a few pages that have recently been added. (Fixes caused by FrontPage doing it's own thing and linking off into thin air. It's really getting on my nerves! Wonder if FP 2002 is any better? Hmmm ....I doubt it!)

A tech article about what causes detonation - from "Car Mechanics" dated (double gulp) Jan 1990

More new "Fakes" pics - seems the non-GTI-R Aussie owners involved were a mite peeved about it all: emails have been exchanged, threats made but the pics remain - as a tribute to all who strive for the GTI-R look, even if they do carry an extra couple of doors around.

(The Sale/Wants page has been constantly updated and is currently back to the self-imposed weekly update target. I've started to make a few changes that will hopefully make things clearer/simpler all 'round and set myself a goal of verifying ALL the ads periodically to try to save everyone time & trouble.)

My apologies ... over the past two days the website has suffered from FrontPage-itis ... I clicked the wrong button (Microsoft "Theme" ... again!) and that resulted in most pages becoming unreadable. I've now fixed all the pages impacted on the website, I hope! Let me know if you find a trashed page. All of this has resulted in the parts page ("Sale/Wants") lagging behind emails you've sent: since the 18th May I've had 10 updates to process and they will be implemented in the next 24 hours.

As some small consolation, the latest updates include pics & vids of Japfest 2003 at Castle Coombe circuit (UK) and a couple of new Fakes photo's.

Hi to Nick W, Nad, Si ... and all who tried to talk to me while I was watching the Austrian GP F1 qualifying ... Nigel - I hope you have fun with the new Skyline when it arrives!

Well, summer in the UK has been pretty awful - so taking advantage of the lack of meets I've been busy around the Project Car. It's had a Forge frontmount fitted and a recondition done to the (Forge again) dumpvalve. Pictures to follow ...

I've adjusted the timing and re-gapped the spark plugs to suit. This is the first time this has been done since I bought it a couple of years ago - well, it only did 900 miles since the last annual MOT ... I also re-boosted it via the restrictor and it's now running just about 0.9 bar. Performance should be up there in the 280bhp range. Having given a 13.6ET with a topmount, standard boost, "off the boat" tune and 194/14's I expect to nudge 13 dead next time I try it out at Santa Pod on the 205/17's with no heatsoak.

As ever, the Sale/Wants page has been constantly updated.

lthough the site was long overdue for an update I've kept the "Sale/Wants" page pretty current. This update contains lots of stuff... track pics Trax 2001 that I'd forgotten I had, some of the Santa Pod pics from February 2002.

Also mainly a tidy-up - apologies to everyone who's pics I'd dropped, links not updated or articles not included. Hopefully I've sorted them out now. I've also reduced a few of the bigger files to make browsing speedier - and clawed back 3mb for more stuff.

This update also includes more in the "How To" page on the heater controls and a major set of instructions on the conversion and delimiting work needed to drive in the UK - thanks to Martin Bell.

Matt Oliver has kindly done detailed write-ups of some work he's done. This adds to the rather sparse instructions to be found in the Workshop Manual. It includes a list - before you start! - of the necessary tools. There are other such instructions on different pages all over this web ... one day I'll get so organised!
