Removing the Fuel Tank (Rear Beam Removed) This is a guide to remove the fuel tank with the rear beam, transfer box, driveshafts, rear brakes and suspension units already removed Tools- o Philips Screwdriver o Flat Bladed Screwdriver o 10mm Socket o 12mm Socket o 14mm Socket o 17mm Socket o Extension Bar(s) o Ratchet o 10mm Spanner o 12mm Spanner o 14mm Spanner o 17mm Spanner o Trolley jack o Axle Stands o 2 Blocks of Wood o Fuel Container o Small Hammer o Pliers o Pipe for siphoning (If required) Procedure- 1. Remove the rear seats, and plastic trims to access the fuel tank sender metal cover 2. Remove the bolts to remove the metal fuel tank sender cover 3. Disconnect the electrical plugs to the sender 4. Disconnect the Fuel tank breather (Gold coloured pipe going to the filler neck) 5. Jack the car up as high as possible 6. Support on axle stands using pieces of wood on the chassis, to spread the load 7. Separate the exhaust at the cat/cat replacement pipe and remove the rear section 8. Undo the jubilee clip which holds the filler flexible pipe to the filler neck, NOT at the end were the pipe joins the tank 9. Being ready for the fuel which will be stored in the bend, pull the pipe off the fuel filler pipe and drain into a suitable container 10. Two methods can be used now, either remove the tank with all the fuel still in it, or siphon the remaining fuel out 11. Using pliers loosen the spring clips on the fuel supply and return lines were they join the metal supply lines on the chassis 12. Being prepared for fuel pressure release, separate the return, supply and breather filter (Small black tube shaped can) hoses 13. The tank is now only being held on with the two metal tank straps, held at the front end by a retaining pin with clip, and by a (very long) bolt at the rear end. 14. Either remove the retaining clips and withdraw the retaining pins, or undo the two bolts at the rear end of the straps 15. If you have not drained the tank of fuel keep the rear left corner of the tank up to stop fuel leaking 16. Lower the tank and withdraw from the car
