Removing the Rear Beam complete This is a guide to remove the rear beam, transfer box, driveshafts, rear brakes and suspension units complete. Tools- o Philips Screwdriver o Flat Bladed Screwdriver o 10mm Socket o 12mm Socket o 14mm Socket o 17mm Socket o Extension Bar(s) o Ratchet o 10mm Spanner o 12mm Spanner o 14mm Spanner o 17mm Spanner o WD40 o Pliers o Two jam Jars o Two Trolley Jacks o Two Axle Stands o 4 Blocks of Wood o Bit of String Procedure- 1. Remove the plastic trims to access the handbrake cable inside the car 2. Remove the 1off 10mm nut which secures the handbrake cable to the handbrake lever 3. Remove the plastic trims to access the rear suspension turrets 4. Remove the 3off 12mm nuts on the top of each suspension turret holding the dampers on 5. Loosen the road wheel nuts on both the rear wheels 6. Jack the rear of the car up as high as you can get it and support on axle stands. Support on the chassis, using blocks of wood to spread the load, DO NOT support on the beam (Obviously) 7. Spray WD40 over the 4 beam mounting spigots. (Large, rubber bushed posts sticking down with 17mm nuts on the end 8. Remove the retaining clip which holds the brake pipe to the forward side of the dampers 9. Remove the 10mm bolt, and clip which retains the brake pipe to the rear of the dampers 10. Remove the 12mm bolt which holds the brake pipe to the calliper's 11. Remove and discard the 4off Copper washers on the brake banjo's 12. Put the pipes into two jam jars to drain the brake fluid 13. Remove the brake pipe banjo union and refit the bolt to stop the ingress of dirt 14. Put the car in a low gear and remove 2off the 12mm nuts holding the prop shaft to the transfer box 15. Take out of gear and rotate the prop shaft to access the other 2off bolts securing the prop shaft to the transfer box 16. Put back in gear and remove the remaining nuts 17. Remove the 4off bolts holding the handbrake cables to the chassis (Roughly under the rear seats) 18. Loosen the spring clip and undo the transfer box breather at the rear of the box 19. Using 2 trolley jacks support the left and the right side of the beam, use pieces of wood to spread the load 20. Undo and remove the 4off 17mm bolts holding the beam to the 4 mounting spigots. The beam will now be held to the car by the trolley jacks only 21. Slowly and equally lower the jacks 3/4 of the way down the spigots 22. Check round the front of the Transfer box that the prop shaft is clear of the box and will not be damaged and tie up if possible. 23. Lower the beam fully and withdraw from the car on the trolley jacks.
