HEATER CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL THEREOF: - Curtis Fielder Firstly you need to take off the plastic gear stick surround part of the dash that connects to the leather gaiter. There is a screw either side I think. You don't need to take it off the gear stick just move it out the way so you can get to the next bit. Remove the part of the dash that surrounds the heater control and your radio and contains you rear demister / hazards / rear fog etc... To do this there is a screw under the ash tray and one behind the ash tray which you'll also need to take out. Once you've removed these if you gently pull the bottom away you should be able to release the clips that hold it in at the top. Go easy with this as the wires connected to the buttons may not be very long. If they are quite long you won't have to remove this part, just rest it on top of your dashboard with the button still connected. If not, disconnect the wires from the buttons, they should all be blocks that you squeeze either side and pull, but not in all cases. Once the plastic parts are out of the way the fun really starts. You'll need to disconnect the cable that is joined to the heater slider switch. If you look up under the passenger side footwell you should spot a black cable that is held in place with a clip. Release the clip. This cable has a stiff wire poking out of the end with a 90 degree bend that goes into a hole on the back of the slider switch that controls the hot/cold air. This is difficult to explain properly but you'll see what I mean if you have a look. Remove this wire from the hole (requires a bit of wiggling) :) Once the cable is off it's just a case of getting the unit out. There is a screw either side which you'll need to remove, then the more things you take out the easier the job will be (it's up to you). I lost my patience trying to giggle it out with such little room so I removed the radio, the cup holders and the three dials above, but go as far as you think you need to to get the little bugger out. Once you've disconnected it and removed it, you slide something on the back to open it up. I can't remember exactly how, but I do remember it wasn't obvious at first how to get it open. You don't need to force anything so go careful. Once opened you'll see the LED you need to replace. I may have missed out the odd screw that you'll need to remove so take care if something seem stuck. That's about it. LED's you can get from Nissan for £5 each or RS Catalogue for less, but need amending. I'd allow two hours for this job the first time you try it. Once your confident you know what your doing you could do it all in about 30 minutes...
